WEST COAST SEPT 2005 BACK AT THE CASBAH-and getting to see eric bachman of CROOKED FINGERS for the first time since we met in Bergen Norway-he was playing with richard buckner on block from my hotel back in june and we got to meet and hang out-it was super-bachman-bare-buckner-in bergen- unfortunately our govorment left the poor people of new orleans stranded in the streets and most people of san diego couldn't get away from the tv-and we were tired from our trip which started at 4am in nashville-luckily los angeles was better and people were getting out-the jaded L.A. crowd did not get tom heinl's GRIZZLY ADAMS bit which they should have as he is such a great performer-san fran was the best show we have had there ever-even the guy who yawned on my monitor was really into the show-EUGENE was jolly as ever-and we got to meet tom heinl's mom-I rode to seattle with eric cause I had free passes to get into the bumbershoot festival where I got to see friends from okkerville river-early mart-and got to see the stooges for the first time-three days later and much less pain in the pocket from gas price gouging-we filled up the tractor tavern in ballard with a loud crowd-lots of fun-and we got to see jason ringenberg open the show-bellingham is an effortless and pleasant drive up from seattle and we have some dedicated fans up there-next time we are gonna go all the way through to vancouver as I have not played there since I opened up for the reverend horton heat in 2001- portland was a rowdy mess-we didn't start till 1am-but it was packed and fun-then back to seattle to the croc-and having to follow 50ft wave who blasted the crowd-midnight set time felt early after portland but we played extra long and did extra encore songs-and yes my neck was hurting the whole time and yes it is feeling better now that I am home with my girls-hope to see everyone at austin city limits fest that told me they were going-it should be much fun-- --apology for july 2005 tour-- I suffer from a recurring disc problem in my neck-too many years of what we call in the biz "gig neck" it makes my fingers numb and provides me with a constant pain in my back and arm-I almost turned back in memphis while headed for texas-but steroids(cortisone) carried me a full week and a half through to athens-sorry sc and fla-I will come back some day-the constant finger of the god of pain presses continuously upon my head-and forces me to stare at my shoes everywhere I go- I have drifted away on a cloud of vicoden and muscle relaxers with hopes of relif before the west coast tour- hope you all get to see a healthy version of me and my neck bouncing around some stage in some bar some time soon------------------forgiveness be mine-bbj ------------------------------------- BOBBY MEETS MORRISSEY Here is a list of the shows young criminals keyboardist Loney Hutchins and bobby just did Dec 01 -Credo-Trondheim, Norway -the pleasure, the privledge is mine-
Then we got stuck in oslo, Norway for the night-the city was frozen So was Trondhiem-along with being one inch from the artic circle-and therefore only offering sunlight between 10am and 3pm--but we had a super show Bergen was drowning in rain-for 3 days-but such a beautiful city (surrounded by mountains)even in the fog and showers-we rehearsed our drummer Steig and had a super show
The train ride to Oslo was the most beautiful part of the entire trip-even though it seems like half the ride is underground through tunnels Oslo had thawed a bit and our show was just ok-the people were great though Gutenberg has always been good to us and the venue had lots of beautiful reverb Stockholm is my favorite Scandinavian city-it is all built on islands
and the buildings are beautiful - and we always have lots of people at
the shows We rehearsed with the horn section from the band THE CONCRETES
- Ludvig and Ulrik-they knew the songs and sounded great-and we had a
bitchin show-lots of people and good rockin We then went to Halden Norway where we played a very small pub right next to the train station-the 40 people who showed up had much drunken enthusiasm and got a great show-we couldnt fit anymore people in the door and made lots of friends-- Lund Sweden is like a make believe city in a Christmas movie-all cobblestone streets covered with happy people and wispy snow---and lots of drunk people at our show--a very blurry night that was much fun-even though I broke my electric guitar in half during the terrible sunrise----I am still trying to glue it back together--- We returned to Stockholm to catch our flight back to the UK-but we got to see The Concretes do their hometown Christmas show-it was sold out and they all wore white and played all the hits-they let us drink their beer and asked us to get up and sing the last song with them but I chickened out-- I had left my passport in Trondhiem so I had to get a passport in Stockholm before going to the UK to do a show that night in Brixton-and everything fell into place just fine and the crowd at The Windmill was great---and there was a really nice guy there from Morrisseys record label who got me on the guest list to see P J Harvey open up for Morrissey the next night in Birmingham-I over slept and missed Polly Jean but I got to see 10,000 people go crazy for The Mozzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz--- Now back to the USA to rehearse for our NEW YEARS EVE show at Schubas in Chicago-it should be great-and it is alomost sold out--
OCT 3-2004--THANKS AGAIN So yeah---there were 75,000 people at the show in Austin-the pixies were
spectacular-all our friends were there-mindy smith-billy mercer-holly
williams- paul niehaus-chris masterson-wilco-my morning jacket-centromatic-we
got a great crowd response and the only encore for our stage---the heat
inside my suit felt like hot wax-but I looked good-real good---after the
show on sunday we went with the guitar player from the Roots to see Redd
Volkaert at the continental club---he asked if he was gonna get beat up
cause he was the only black gut there and we laughed and said most likely
yes----Redd melted his brain and then went dancing and drinking at the
after party-we had beer and catfish and perry ferrel was the dj--driving
back to nasvhille was rough-it was one of the best weekends ever-watching
my morning jacket was very inspiring - they are so good at the festival
thing---our show on sat. night at the caucus club went great with lots
of familiar faces---- then our other highlight of this last month was
over 2000 people at the show in chicago---it was great-we had a great
time-and they gave us both a bottle of jack and a bottle of jameson---hags
smoked grass for the first time of the tour and ended up falling down
and having to sit in the penalty box---what a great time--now I head down
into the downstairs rehearsal space to rehearse for the acoustic tour
unless there is a baby born---we are headed west and then to cmj in nyc--- aug-2nd-2004-NASHVILLE,TN In the last 5 months I have been through hell - a handbag - happiness
- holland - belgium - germany - norway - sweden -U.S. Virgin islands and
32 of the 50 UNITED STATES OF AMERICA- I lost 2 jackets-10 lbs - 1digital
camera-a boat load of wonder and a teacup of innocence-I have - got pregnant
- got married - got happy - got mad - got press- got paid - got up - got
down - got lost and got home-and used prepositions freely the whole time--
had the best first week of sales for any album of mine- and played the
biggest show I have ever headlined - had the most difficult tour -and
made new friends- lost old friends -and disappointed others--- but the
fans of the "YOUNG CRIMINALS STARVATION LEAGUE" have never disappointed
me -- so I'm glad y'all stuck around--and hope to see all y'all in austin
for the acl fest or somewhere along the road--bbj notes from the road-halloween weekend-2003 |

sunday-oct 26th-2003-bristol,tn-11:30 pm we are now driving back from the cmj weekend in NYC-I am laying in the floor of my mini van-it is late and I am in deep pain as my neck has disc problems from head banging---but it was well worth it-we left last tue. and drove strait to RALEIGH,NC-fun show and got to try out the new songs--also a tough show as it is our first show of the tour---great crowd though--then the next 2 days we got to lay around DARYL WHITE'S (TRAILER BRIDE'S BASS PLAYER) farm house near CHAPLE HILL,NC (see above picture) and sleep off hang overs, fish, row boats, and shoot DARYL'S shotgun---TOM killed a pine apple - we then traveled to NORFOLK, VA to play in a restaraunt that fed us really well---TRAILER BRIDE kicked ass and we then took on NYC-our 6 hour drive took 9 hours - but we were on time and had a great show even though everyone in the band got really drunk by the time we played at 1am--but tons of fun none the less---the next day I did 3 show- noon for LAURA CANTRELL at the museum on radio and tv-6 pm at the BLOODSHOT BBQ- and then 11pm at the rodeo bar just minutes after the YANKEES lost the world series--it was packed at the rodeo bar with sad sad baseball fans and I don't really remember much of the second set because of exaustion---but somehow we all made it back to NASHVILLE and are on our way to CLEVELAND this thur for the rest of our tour-- WED NOV. 20TH 2002 - 4:27 AM ----- 154 MILES WEST OF BUTTE

SAN DIEGO with our new west coast back ground singer HOLLY WILLIAMS - who was filling in for CAREY KOTSIONIS who could not make the WEST COAST part of our trip------our L.A. show the next day was with JOHN BRION - who is an unbelievable performer who joined us at the end of our show for our BEST FRIEND'S BABA cover-LON-E our keyboard player drove 32 hrs to play with us and proved he is the glue that holds us all together---the next day I flew to SAN FRANCISCO and did a radio show while the rest of the band got lost in LA trying to pick up HOLLY ----then they ended up in BAKERSFIELD on an unplanned detour (lost again)-when they got to SAN FRAN we loaded into the CAFÉ DU NORDE and it filled up to around 150 people which felt really crowded for the small basement bar---kid rock showed up and brought sean penn to the show with him- and invited us to go to an after hours bar that they go to there in SAN FRAN-we ended up playing the blues with kid rock till 5am---teel got to teach wynnona ryder how to play the mandolin and he was so happy I thought he was gonna cry-I don't know what any of this stuff means but it was interesting seeing these celebrities trying to be themselves----- after all this hollow glamour it was strait to laying in the floor of my minivan for 10 hours--we were originally gonna drive out of town and get a room but because we were up till 5am we had to drive strait to PORTLAND --- while driving through MT. SHASTA NATIONAL PARK I felt the need to go hiking and pulled over ---HOLLY and I went to explore the dirt roads that run right off of the I-5 ---we found a train trestle going over a beautiful white water river-

MT. SHASTA NATIONAL PARK ---we walked on the bridge and got to see a train pass through---If it had come through 4 minutes earlier HOLLY and I would have been smashed----we then drove to PORTLAND for an unexciting experience at a bar there called MT. TABOR-they spelled my name BOBBY BEAR JR. -NEVER a good sign-but SEATTLE made up for everything---such a great city --- we picked up a photographer friend named MIMI in PORTLAND and TEEL and TOM rode with here ---- they stopped off to see JIMI HENDRIX'S grave site-at night - and got lost-in the dark - and never found the grave sight even though a MC DONALDS employee made them a map

-on the back of a package of french fries--we had a night off and spent quality time with my buddy AL eating sea creatures---the next day I did a radio show at KEXP and an in store at SONIC BOOM----we made lots of friends---then over 250 people came to our show on a Sunday night-what a thrill to drive as far away from NASHVILLE in the continental USA and get to see so many people sing along to my songs----we drank tons of jack and coke and went to bed when the sun came up----the next day we went to the "EXPERIENCE MUSIC PROJECT" - which is only comparable to the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME - but 3x more fun---we also sang at piano bar called THE SUNSET TAVERN---the owner treated us well and made sure we all drank too much--our van had some transmission troubles which unfortunately caused us to miss our DENVER show - but we will make it up to them------our MINNIEAPOLIS show was also a wonderful surprise----we had over half the room full and GARY LOURIS from the JAYHAWKS got up and did our last song with us-----we hope to be back there for some shows in late DECEMBER-I slept in the floor of my van that night and woke up at 5am cause my nostrils were freezing----it gets colder in that town than anywhere else I have been---then on to CHICAGO for 2 gigs at SCHUBA'S with RICHARD BUCKNER---what a great guy and what a great club----we tried to be some what more acoustic and quite cause' RICHARD was playing solo after us but realized that it just made us sound like we sucked by playing that timid---so we ended up rocking and RICHARD said that was just fine----we all went out to get in our van at 2am and go to a KAREOKE bar and after HOLLY WILLIAMS almost ran over me and DEANNA VARAGONA (our baritone saxophonist) with my trailer while getting in the back of the van we drove to the bar ------it was open till 4am and we all danced till closing time----the next day we did an instore performance with TEEL on mandolin-me on gtr and DEANNA on BARITONE SAX---it was a gas-our show that night at SCHUBAS was a little bit more rock and was a good way to end the tour-the horn section always makes things complete----it was our most successful trip ever--sold out or all most sold out all but 4 shows-almost sold out of our t-shirts and sold out of cd's 2 times----we hope to do another loop in FEB or MARCH ---- I go to EUROPE in JANUARY for a couple of weeks- and then hope to do some recording-------------HAPPY HOLLIDAYS - and thanks to all y'all who came to the shows----HUGGAHUG--BBJ
